On Thursday 30th January, the girls’ football team competed in ‘West Ham United Premier League Primary Stars under 11 Girls Football Festival’ at Woodlands School in Basildon. The festival was made up of nine schools all playing eight ten minute games.

On Tuesday 4th February 10 year 6 children attended the Emerging B Team Hockey competition at Southend Hockey Club. It was a very cold, windy morning and 7 schools were in attendance. In the afternoon of Tuesday 4th February, 10 Year 6 children entered the Southend Hockey A competition at Southend Hockey Club, Warner’s Bridge. We played 6 games, lost one, drew one and won four. It came down to a three way draw between us Thorpe Hall and Greenways all finishing on 24 points. After waiting patiently for the results; on goal difference by only one goal we finished third. On Wednesday 22nd January, West Leigh competed in both the year 3/4 and year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics, with the year 3/4 tournament in the morning and the year 5/6 tournament in the afternoon. Both tournaments consisted of six track events, six field events where the athletes were only allowed to compete in a maximum of two track and two field events. On Tuesday 21st January, the boys’ football team travelled to Our Lady of Lourdes to play in their first league game of the season. In the first half, Our Lady of Lourdes managed to gain two early goals, the team then kept their heads up and remained positive and focused, working tirelessly to get the game back, scoring three goals to obtain the lead. On Tuesday 21st January, 10 Year 6 girls played in a hockey friendly competition at Southend Hockey Club. They played Alleyn Court A and B teams, St Michaels and Bournemouth Park. The girls won 2 games, drew one and lost the other. This half term, a group of children have visited Legra Care Home each week to complete craft activities with the residents. The children have been fantastic ambassadors for the school and the residents look forward to their visit every week. On Wednesday 27th November, the school dodgeball teams travelled to Garons Tennis and Leisure Centre to take part in a multi-school dodgeball event. The day was split into two parts: one team attending the festival in the morning and the other team attending in the afternoon for a competitive tournament.

The team worked incredibly hard at the regional science quiz semi finals. Competing against 16 teams all from private schools within the region. We got off to a slow start however managed to overtake much of the competition getting to 5th place with only the final round left to compete. The Year 5 and 6 Boys' football team competed in the Southend Primary School Sports Association Boys' Football Competition on Friday 22nd November 2019. The day started with the group stages and four games to play, each lasting 8 minutes one way.
