

Young Voices 2026
What an exciting week we have had! On Wednesday 21 st January, 77 children from years 4 and 5 boarded the coach to go to London's O2 in preparation for the Young Voices concert. They joined children from schools all over the South of England (and even some who had travelled from Wales) to form a choir of over 8,800. Year 5/6 Girls' Football vs Fairways
The whole of the year 5/6 girls’ football team travelled to Fairways to play a friendly and league match on Wednesday,14th January. The league match was a tough battle between both teams with plenty of tackles and defensive blocks making it difficult for both teams to get a shot at goal. In the second half, West Leigh had a few chances but with the keeper pulling off some great saves and the ball going wide on a number of occasions, the match ended in a 0-0 draw. On the othe


Santa Netball
On Friday 5 th December, eight Year 6 girls attended the annual Alleyn Court Santa Netball Competition. With a hot chocolate, cookie and Santa hat at the ready, this was our first competitive netball game so far this year. The girls started really well and were getting used to playing together as a team. Great fun was had by all during the day, with some excellent shooting and defending by everyone involved. Year 6 Enjoy a Visit from the Young Shakespeare Company
Today, our Year 6 pupils were treated to an inspiring visit from the Young Shakespeare Company. A talented group of four actors delivered an engaging and energetic performance of Macbeth , bringing Shakespeare’s timeless story to life in a way that truly captivated the children. Throughout the session, pupils were invited to answer questions, explore key themes, and deepen their understanding of the play. Year 4 Dodgeball Competition
The Year 4 dodgeball team competed at the Southend competition on Thursday. There were brilliant dodges and accurate, powerful throws throughout the morning! These children have been training in the Year 4 lunch time dodgeball club throughout the Autumn term and were excited to put their skills to the test. Year 3 Netball Club
Some of our Year 6 Sports Captains have been busy leading a netball club for Year 3 girls before school. They have been working hard to plan activities for the children, ensuring every member of the club is able to develop their netball ability! It has been wonderful to see the Sports Captains developing their leadership skills and the Year 3 girls with huge smiles on their faces when participating! Well done, girls!


General Knowledge Quiz Club Triumph!
Over the past four weeks, two dedicated teams—selected through a series of Year Group trials—have been sharpening their minds during our lunchtime General Knowledge Quiz Club. Yesterday, their hard work paid off at the area heat, where they competed against schools from across the country in a thrilling contest. Year 6 Basketball Festival
Three teams of West Leigh children competed at the Southend basketball festival on Thursday. They competed in nine matches and worked fantastically throughout. It was a great opportunity and experience for the children to demonstrate and showcase their basketball talent against other schools. The children grew in confidence throughout the morning and worked well in their teams to win as many games as possible!


Team Challenge Day
Today, our whole school came together for the first Team Challenge of the year! The afternoon began with children moving around the school to collaborate with different teachers and peers in their house teams. Year 5/6 Girls' Football
Congratulations to the West Leigh Year 5/6 girls’ football team who competed in the Southend competition on Friday. They fought brilliantly in their twelve matches, only losing two of them and conceding just two goals across the whole day! Their determination, resilience and support for each other was a joy to watch. The team finished in 4th place and are already determined to go one step further next year.
