Our aim is to teach a broad and balanced curriculum with enthusiasm and expertise. We teach the National Curriculum and personalise this for our pupils. We personalise our curriculum in a number of ways, including:

  • A curriculum driver that is selected to meet the needs of our pupils

  • Use of the local area and resources wherever possible

  • Consultation with pupils to ensure that they are engaged with their learning

  • Planned opportunities for meaningful local community involvement and participation

  • A cross curricular approach to the teaching of the foundation subjects in our ‘Connected Curriculum’, with a focus on transferable skills across the curriculum

This year’s curriculum driver is responsibility. We felt that our pupils needed to develop the following areas:

  • global awareness

  • organisational skills

  • personal responsibility

  • ownership of their choices

  • a knowledge of their responsibility for their own mental health and personal wellbeing

As a result, ‘responsibility’ will be driven throughout lesson planning, assemblies and extra-curricular activities to ensure that pupils fully develop this attribute.

This overarching theme can cover many different types of responsibility and we want pupils to gain an understanding of their different responsibilities throughout the year.

These include (but are not limited to!):

  • resources and property

  • future of the world – both planet and politics

  • mental health and wellbeing

  • for own learning

  • organisation

  • towards others other than self
