Week one - Isolation/home schooling
We have asked parents and carers to help us keep the children connected during this time by sending in photos of what the everyone is doing during their time at home. It was really lovely receiving the photos. We have also asked the staff to send photos of what the children are doing in school. Netball B Festival
Last week 8 year 5/6 girls attended the netball B festival at Alleyn Court school. Six schools were there, we played Hamstel and won 3-1, we then played Blenheim and won 2-0, we then played Bournes Green and won 2-0 and finally we played Darlinghurst which we lost 5-1. We therefore only lost one game and came second overall.

Science at Westcliff High School for Girls
As part of our celebrations of British Science Week, a group of children from Years 5 and 6 visited Westcliff High School for Girls. They were able to take part in a secondary style science lesson using chemicals and equipment that they have never seen before! Firstly the children mixed two chemicals in order to identify a chemical reaction. The children were amazed to see a dramatic change in colour and the formation of a solid. KS2 Netball competition
Today 8 year 6 girls entered the KS2 netball competition at Garon Park. There were sixteen schools involved. Our first game was a close one against Thorpe Hall which we won 6-5, we then played Blenheim and won 6-2 and Hamstel and beat them 8-0. We were then grouped into the super 8’s where we were up against Friars which we won 6-0. We then played Our Lady of Lourdes and won that 12-0. Boys football league match Vs Chalkwell
On Monday 10th February, the boys’ football team played their third game of the season against Chalkwell Hall. In the first half, the boys had their defending ability’s put to the test, unfortunately Chalkwell managed to find space and get an early 2-0 lead. Despite this, the boys remained focused and played with great determination to find a way through Chalkwell’s defenders and passed the keeper to bring them back into the game. Year 3/4 boys' football tourament
On Friday 14th February, the year 3/4 boys’ football team travelled to the Len Forge Centre to compete in the year 3/4 football tournament. The day started with the group stages with four games to play. The boys were unfortunate to lose their first game but kept confident. Putting the result behind them, they then went onto score early in their second match before Thorpedene scored in the closing stages of the match, ending in a draw. On Friday 7th February, West Leigh Junior School had a new headteacher – for the day! Alex Miller won the school election and fulfilled his role as well as some of his campaign promises. Children were treated to games in their English and maths lessons, an extra afternoon break and an exciting whole school art project. Boys' football team play Thorpedene Primary School
On Friday 7th February, the boys football team travelled to Thorpedene Primary School to play their second league game. The boys put their previous game behind them and went into this game with confidence and determination, which showed with superb passes and set pieces. In the first half, the boys played a number of shots, with Thorpedene’s keeper and defenders pulling out critical saves and tackles in the box. At half time, the boys had a 3-1 lead. West Leigh girls' football team play Chalkwell Park
On Monday 3rd February, the girls’ football team travelled to Chalkwell Park to play in their first league game of the season. In the first half, Chalkwell managed to score two early goals, the team remained positive and focused finding a couple of opportunities but were unable to get past the keeper, with the first half ending, West Leigh 0-2 Chalkwell.
