Queen's Platinum Jubilee
This afternoon, West Leigh Infant and Junior Schools came together to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. For the last month, the children have all been working hard to learn celebration songs and to dance the jive - a popular dance during the decade in which Queen Elizabeth II became queen.
During the morning all children created a special jubilee hat and decorated a cupcake in patriotic colours. They spent some time researching different ideas that they could use to decorate their hat and we were amazed by all the different and creative designs. They filled the playground with colour.
Following a rousing rendition of ‘School Party’, the children performed their jive – and what a sight to see over 800 children performing the dance together! Our talented Year 6 dance group led the dancing on stage. After the dance, the children sang ‘Rock Around the Clock’ – a popular fifties song from the time of the Queen’s coronation.
This was followed by cake and drinks on the playground, so that the children could gather and celebrate together. This felt particularly special as it was the first time that all the children had got together since Covid. They really enjoyed eating the delicious cakes that they had decorated that morning.
Finally, the children were treated to a visit from the Queen, her guards and corgis! We concluded our event by singing the National Anthem.
