Our cross-country squad competed in glorious sunshine last Friday against schools from across Southend! In one of our biggest sporting events of the year, it was fantastic to see the children reap the rewards of all their hard work in preparing for the event. There were so many success stories, from first time appearances competing for West Leigh Junior School, improved positions from previous years or to many of the squad finishing in or pushing for medal positions. With over 100 children in each race, it was incredible to see our children placing so high. A special mention to George, Oliver and Alexander in the Year 6 boys' race who all finished in the top three! Connie (3rd) Maddie (2nd) and Louie (1st) in Year 3 and Oliver (2nd) in Year 5 completed our medal line up. The overall results have been counted and verified... West Leigh are the Southend cross-country 2026 champions! We're going to see many of our children competing in the Essex finals in March. Children who finished in the top 10 of their races or if their team finished in the top two have qualified for the Essex finals. Here are the team results:

Year 3 Girls: 1st
Year 3 Boys: 1st
Year 4 Girls: 1st
Year 4 Boys: 11th
Year 5 Girls: 4th
Year 5 Boys: 1st
