On Friday 11th May, eight pupils took part in the ‘Southend and District Tennis Tournament’ at Garon Park. In the morning session, a team of four children from years’ 3 and 4 were in action. Following a nail biting tie break match, West Leigh finished top of their group and went into the semi- final match. After a closely fought battle, the children narrowly missed out on a place in the final. The 3rd / 4th playoff was equally close, but this time our team were the winners and were absolutely delighted with their bronze medals. In the afternoon, the year 5/6 team were in action. They were fortunate enough to play on the outdoor courts and enjoy the mild summer sunshine. After a series of exciting matches, the pupils finished 2nd in their group, just missing out on a place in the quarter finals. Congratulations to all the players for their excellent tennis skills and great sportsmanship and thank you to the supporters.
