Week two of lockdown and home schooling as well as our key workers children being in school. Week one - Isolation/home schooling
We have asked parents and carers to help us keep the children connected during this time by sending in photos of what the everyone is doing during their time at home. Year 3/4 boys' football tourament
On Friday 14th February, the year 3/4 boys’ football team travelled to the Len Forge Centre to compete in the year 3/4 football tournament. The day started with the group stages with four games to play. The boys were unfortunate to lose their first game but kept confident. Putting the result behind them, they then went onto score early in their second match before Thorpedene scored in the closing stages of the match, ending in a draw. Head for the Day
On Friday 7th February, West Leigh Junior School had a new headteacher – for the day! Alex Miller won the school election and fulfilled his role as well as some of his campaign promises. Children were treated to games in their English and maths lessons, an extra afternoon break and an exciting whole school art project. Yr 3/4 & 5/6 Sports Hall Athletics
On Wednesday 22nd January, West Leigh competed in both the year 3/4 and year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics, with the year 3/4 tournament in the morning and the year 5/6 tournament in the afternoon. Both tournaments consisted of six track events, six field events where the athletes were only allowed to compete in a maximum of two track and two field events. Crafts at local care home
This half term, a group of children have visited Legra Care Home each week to complete craft activities with the residents. The children have been fantastic ambassadors for the school and the residents look forward to their visit every week. Inter-generational poppy making afternoon
The school council were invited to take part in an inter-generational poppy making afternoon at West Leigh Baptist Church on Wednesday 6thNovember. A large number of people from the local community attended the event, and the children enjoyed meeting new people from different generations and hearing stories about the local area and their school in the past. They worked together to make some beautiful poppies that will be used in the church’s Remembrance Sunday display. Many o

SPSSA Cross Country Tournament
On Wednesday 2nd October, West Leigh took 46 children from across the school to take part in the Southend Primary School Sports Association Cross Country Tournament. The children were running in teams as well as individuals. Each year group had their own race split into a girls’ race and a boys’ race, with year 3 and 4 running 1km and year 5 and 6 running 1.5km. Harvest Festival
On Friday 11th October, the children donated a variety of tinned and packet foods to our harvest collection which was gratefully received by Southend Foodbank. After learning how foodbanks operate and how they support the local community, the children were keen to make a difference and gave generously and the representative from our local foodbank was overwhelmed by their generosity.
