For the last 2 to 3 weeks the year 3 children have been in stitches producing their maritime communication flags! To start the process, we looked at actual maritime flags and the messages they conveyed. The children were then inspired to create their own maritime message and accompanying flag design. The children demonstrated their skills by practising various stitches, producing a paper pattern of their design, cutting out fabric pieces and then sewing them together. The children really enjoyed the task and learned many new skills and techniques along the way. The task is now all sewn up and completed flags are on display in the classrooms.
