Year 3 visit London
On Tuesday 28th and Thursday 30th June Year 3 visited London as part of their connected curriculum topic on the River Thames. The children met their teachers at Leigh-on-Sea station and took a train to Fenchurch Street. After disembarking they walked down past the Roman London wall and over Tower Bridge to get their first glimpse of the river. After crossing Tower Bridge, they had the opportunity to study some of the iconic buildings that could be seen from the South Bank including the Gherkin, the Walkie Talky and the Shard. The children tried their hand at sketching and photographing these and other buildings. Then what the children had been waiting for, a river cruise on the Thames. We embarked at Tower Pier and travelled up the river to Westminster looking at how the river is used and finding out, from an informative commentary, about some of the river’s fascinating history. After a quick lunch over- looking the Tower of London we returned tired but brimming full of enthusiasm and prepared to create some amazing artwork! As always the children were a credit both to their parents and the school.
