Essex Table Tennis Finals

On Wednesday 20th October, two teams from West Leigh Junior School competed in the Essex Table Tennis Finals at the BATTS centre in Harlow. This is first time that teams from West Leigh have reached this stage of the competition.

The format of the competition was a ‘round robin’ so each team played five or six matches, one after the other, with very little time for breath in between. In the boys’ competition, the children won four out six matches and in the girls’ competition three out of five. The standard of play was high and the children needed to draw upon their skills, determination and resilience.

It was a very tense wait to see where West Leigh had finished in the medal positions. Finally, after a number of count backs, the great news arrived that in the girls’ competition we had achieved second place, and in the boys’ third place. What a fantastic achievement! Of equal merit is the fact that our pupils were excellent representatives of the school, displaying excellent manners, sportsmanship and supporting their team members throughout the competition.
