Southend Week 2019

What a fabulous week full of a range of activities, gorgeous weather and smiling faces!

On Monday, we took the train to London and hopped onto a brilliant river cruise along the Thames from London Bridge to Greenwich. Along the way, we were educated about all of the river’s histories and secrets. Once there, we raced under the river through a ‘secret tunnel’. We then climbed the hill to the Royal Observatory. Taking in the views of the city, we ate our picnic lunch on the grass and had some fun and games.

On Tuesday, we were back in the Southend area for the day. Our day began with a walk to Belfairs woods where we had a quick play in the wooded area before ending our morning with some horse riding. Some children had never ridden a horse before and found it quite an experience! In the afternoon, we hopped on a bus to Base Jump for a trampolining session (a highlight of the week for most).

Wednesday involved a visit to The Sea-Life Centre and then onto Crazy Golf, just next door. We ended our day out with an ice-cream and a bus ride back to school.

We put our chef’s hat on on Thursday and walked across to Waitrose to buy the ingredients needed for our afternoon tea. We made banana bread, soda bread, brownies, cupcakes, scones and even a cross between the two (as a result of 2 recipes accidently being switched half way through making); we called this masterpiece ‘scopcakes’. After our yummy feast, we made our way down to Old Leigh where we spent the afternoon playing in the sand, water and mud. Some of us were covered from head to toe by the end of the afternoon but luckily it was hot enough to wash off in the rock pool before we headed back to school.

I think most of the children would agree that we saved the best day until last – Adventure Island! We had some daredevils amongst us who braved the new ride, Axis. Whereas most of us felt sick just looking at it!

The children behaved beautifully during the week and were delightful to one another. It was lovely to see them supporting each other, working well together and hearing lots of laughter.
