Year 5/6 Essex County Schools FA Under-11s Boys’ 7-a-side Cup

On Thursday 29th November, the Boys’ football team traveled to Melbourne Park in Chelmsford to compete in the Essex County Schools FA Under-11s Boys’ 7-a-side Cup. The competition brought together the 16 best teams from all over Essex so the standard of competition was going to be high.

The afternoon started with the group stages with 3 games to play: each game being 6 minutes both ways. The boys also had the added challenge of playing with a strong wind blowing across the pitch.

In the first game, the boys once again played Greenways. The game started with the boys applying pressure from the start and managed to get a goal early in the match. They then continued to play with good form, getting the ball close to the goal on a number of occasions. Greenways then managed to get the counter-attack and score. The game finished: West Leigh 1-1 Greenways.

In the second game, the boys played Oakfield Primary. They continued to play at a high standard, with continued pressure being applied and a number of shots at goal: one rebounding off the crossbar and the keeper making some superb saves to stop them finding the back of the net. Oakfield Primary managed to find a way through our defenders in the second half to score. When the final whistle was blown, the game ended West Leigh 0-1 Oakfield Primary.

In the third game, the boys played White Court Primary. The boys remained positive and once again demonstrated their attacking and defending ability. Unfortunately, they were unable to get the ball past the defenders and goalkeeper. White Court managed to get the counter-attack, crossed the ball into the box and past our keeper. The boys then continued to attack with a number of shots just going wide of the goal. The time ticked down and the final whistle was blown with the game ending West Leigh 0-1 White Court Primary.

The boys did an incredible job of making the Essex Finals and being ranked in the top 16 schools in Essex. Throughout the tournament, the boys showed great determination, encouragement, respect and sportsmanship in every match. They dominated each game with the most shots and possession and should feel very confident when approaching the upcoming league matches. Their first match is being played on Monday 3rd December.
