Southend Music Festival 2018
Recorder players from West Leigh participated in the Southend Music Festival recently. This annual event offers musicians the chance to prepare pieces to perform in front of an audience. We also have the opportunity to hear individual feedback from an experienced adjudicator. Our groups had been rehearsing for weeks with Mrs Gentleman and Miss Fisher. All that attention to detail really paid off as both groups were praised for their professional presentation and good sense of ensemble (musical ‘togetherness’). Our Upper School Group presented ‘Michael row the boat ashore’ and ‘What shall we do with a drunken sailor?’, demonstrating a range of harmony parts. Our Year 4 Group played ‘Union Street’ and the ‘Wallace and Gromit’ theme, inspired by our notation classwork in Year 4. We also had the opportunity to play in an impromptu improvisation session with the adjudicator. Congratulations to all our young musicians, especially to those who were representing the school at a music festival for the first time.
