On Wednesday and Thursday, our Year 6 pupils took part in the Southend Schools Cricket Competition at Garon Park, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams representing the school brilliantly.

The boys competed on Wednesday, showing excellent batting and fielding skills throughout the morning. They secured impressive victories against St. Michaels (117–34) and Bournes Green (68–32). In the afternoon, they faced tougher opposition and, despite two closely fought matches against Chalkwell (61–55) and Greenways (63–48), they continued to improve as the day progressed. The team finished on a high with a narrow and exciting win in a friendly match against Prince Avenue. The boys should be very proud of their performance and teamwork.

On Thursday, the girls took to the field for their competition, many playing their first competitive cricket matches. They quickly grew in confidence, demonstrating strong batting and bowling skills. Although they lost their opening game against Greenways (119–68), they followed this with a closely contested match against Edwards Hall, drawing 71–71 but narrowly missing out on the win. In the afternoon, the girls showed great determination, beating Edwards Hall in their rematch and finishing the day with a well-earned victory against Our Lady of Lourdes.

Both teams displayed fantastic effort, resilience, and sportsmanship throughout the competition. Well done to all pupils involved!
