On Wednesday 13th March, the girls’ football team travelled to Fairways Primary School to play their last league game of the season. Having played Fairways three times already this season - twice at the Southend Tournament where both games ending in a draw and at the Essex Finals in the semi-finals where the final result being decide by penalties - West Leigh getting the win. With this, the girls knew this was going to be a tough match; this match was also going to decide who wins the league!

The girls started the game win confidence, applying great pressure on the ball and finding the space to make some great runs and crossing the ball into the box but struggled to get the ball past Fairways defenders and keeper. Just before half time, the girls managed to get a goal. In the second half, the game was very even making for a tense game to watch. Fairways put our defence to the test making some good runs but our defence kept the pressure and made crucial tackles as well as some great saves from the keeper. With the final whistle blown, the game finished West Leigh 1-0 Fairways.

Both teams played a fantastic game of football and demonstrated respect and superb sportsmanship throughout. The girls put in a fantastic performance throughout all three league games managing to win all three finishing top of the table. The team have performed fantastically this season and can be proud of their performance.
