On Thursday 9th July, 103 Year 3 children arrived at school laden with suitcases and brimming with excitement for their two-day residential trip to Danbury. The day began with some fun classroom activities before the coaches arrived and were quickly loaded for the short 30-minute journey.
Upon arrival, the children enjoyed a picnic lunch on the field before organising their tents and preparing for the first of their exciting activities.
The afternoon was packed with adventure. Some children conquered the knee-wobbling heights of the aerial trekking course, others learned the skills of fire-lighting during bushcraft sessions, while many enjoyed racing along the zip wire. After expending plenty of energy, everyone tucked into a delicious dinner of sausages and vegetables. The children then had time to finish settling into their tents and enjoy some free play on the field.
As evening approached, we gathered for a series of team challenges. The children competed in their activity groups in a variety of fun games, including balancing beanbags while hopping between cones and passing beanbags over their heads and between their legs in relay races. The activities concluded with the ever-popular Station Game, which proved to be a huge hit with everyone involved. After an action-packed day, both the children and some of the staff were ready for bed. The campsite gradually settled as the children drifted off to sleep, full of anticipation for the adventures that awaited them the following day.
Friday morning began bright and early as the campsite awoke with the sunrise. Following breakfast, the children met their instructors for two more thrilling activities. Some put their accuracy and maths skills to the test during archery, while others challenged themselves on the climbing wall, showing great courage and determination. After a hearty lunch, it was time to pack up, load the coaches and begin the journey back to school—tired, but full of wonderful memories.
Throughout their time at Danbury, all 103 children demonstrated outstanding determination, resilience and a willingness to embrace new challenges. They showed fantastic teamwork across all activities and continually pushed themselves beyond their comfort zones. The staff were incredibly proud to watch the children thrive outdoors, face their fears and grow in confidence with every challenge they encountered, particularly during the high-adrenaline activities. It was also wonderful to see new friendships flourish and existing ones strengthened over the course of the residential.
The trip was a tremendous success and one that will undoubtedly be remembered by the children for many years to come.
