Southend Week

Southend Week proved to be a tremendous success, with the children showing resilience, positivity and a wonderful sense of adventure throughout—especially in the heat. Each day offered something new, and the pupils embraced every experience with enthusiasm. Our journey to the end of the pier on the first day was a highlight, with the promise of an ice cream spurring everyone on. Reaching the end felt like a real achievement, and the children rewarded themselves with a well‑earned treat—only one scoop met the floor before it met its owner!
The visit to Sealife Adventure was equally memorable. The children were fascinated by the wide range of creatures, from tarantulas and monkeys to otters and tropical fish. Everyone left with a different favourite, and it was lovely to see how engaged and curious they were throughout. On Tuesday, we travelled back to Southend by train for our session at Indi‑Rock. The children were brilliant—enthusiastic, supportive and determined. Several tackled challenging routes on the climbing walls, and a few even reached the top, cheered on by their classmates. Afterwards, we enjoyed a sunny walk to the seafront for a round of adventure golf. Putting inside a cave with dinosaurs watching on added an extra layer of excitement, and the friendly competition kept spirits high.
Wednesday brought another new experience: horse riding. The shade of the woods provided welcome relief from the heat, and it was wonderful to see how much the children enjoyed their time with the horses. Back at school, the afternoon was spent baking and decorating biscuits. The silence as they ate them was a clear sign of approval! On Thursday, the pace slowed for a creative art morning. Pupils worked with good attention to detail and the highlight was painting pottery to keep as a lasting memory of the week.
We rounded off Southend Week with a fantastic bowling trip on Friday. The children cheered one another on, and there was even some good‑natured competition between pupils and adults. Naturally, the final day wouldn’t have been complete without yet another ice cream, making it a perfect finale to a memorable, joyful, hot and action‑packed week. Well done, Southend Week‑ers!
