On the last week of half term, Tuesday and Thursday mornings, Year 3 took a trip to Old Leigh to visit the Heritage Centre and to carry out a geography field study as part of their topic on the River Thames. At the Heritage Centre they learnt about the history of the river, how people in the past worked on it and used it in their daily lives. They then visited Plumb Cottage, a replica of an 18th Century fisherman’s dwelling and enjoyed looking at the artefacts and comparing how our lives today are very different. On the beach the children carried out a range of field study skills including field sketching, data collection and a survey. After half term they will be carrying out some analysis of their findings. All in all the children had a wonderful time, learnt a lot about both the history and geography of our local environment and were as always, beautifully behaved. Many thanks to our wonderful adult helpers.
