Padel Tennis Competition

On Friday 28th April, six pupils took part in the Southend Primary School Sports Association padel tennis competition at Garon Park. The pupils enjoyed a great morning, participating in a relatively new sport.

At start of the competition only one member of the team had ever been on a padel court before! However, this fact did not worry the children who were able to draw upon and adapt their considerable tennis skills. During the matches they all became increasingly confident and developed their padel tennis match play skills.

Six local schools took part in the event, the format of which was a ‘round robin’ tournament. In each of the five rounds there was a doubles match for boys, a doubles match for girls and a mixed doubles match. The pupils won all five rounds, dropping only a couple of matches throughout the entire competition. There were some incredibly close and exciting games, which were eagerly watched and supported by team members and parents/carers alike.

The pupils were delighted to be named winners of the event. In addition to their success on the court, all the pupils demonstrated great sportsmanship and exemplary behaviour whilst at the competition. They were wonderful ambassadors for the school.
