On Friday 4th April, six pupils took part in the Southend Primary School Sports Association padel tennis competition at Garon Park. The sport was a new experience for all of our team and it was great to see them develop in both confidence and skill level throughout the matches. They all managed to draw upon and adapt their considerable tennis skills.
The event was in the format of a ‘round robin’ tournament. In each of the four rounds there was a doubles match for boys, a doubles match for girls and a mixed doubles match. The pupils won a considerable number of matches. There were some incredibly close and exciting games, which were eagerly watched and supported by team members. The overall first and second position was decided upon by a tie break match, which West Leigh lost 12 – 10. Notwithstanding being pipped at the post, the pupils were delighted to be named runners up of the event.
In addition to their excellent play on the court, all the pupils demonstrated great sportsmanship and exemplary behaviour whilst at the competition. They were wonderful ambassadors for the school.
