Year 3 Greek Day

he children in Year 3 thought they’d gone back in time when they came into school last Friday, as instead of their teachers they were met by four Goddesses from Ancient Greece! The children had a wonderful day gaining a wide experience of what life was like in Ancient Greece in preparation for their first Connected Curriculum topic. The children learnt a little bit of the Greek language, looked at the alphabet comparing it to ours and painted their name as it would be written in Greek. They learnt about the origins of the Olympics as a religious festival, and took part in some games. They discovered how the theatre we have today originated from the Ancient Greeks and designed their own masks, showing a wide range of emotions. Finally they found out about the gods and goddess of Ancient Greece, their powers and symbols. Overall it was a day full of excitement and learning.
