Year 6 basketball tournament

On Wednesday 9th January, West Leigh’s basketball team travelled to Thorpe Hall School for the basketball tournament. The team was made up of 6 boys and 4 girls and it started with the group stages with 4 games to play: each half being 3 minutes long.

In the first game, the team worked hard to win the ball and move around the court but unfortunately lost the game. They put the result behind them and focused on the games ahead and went on to win both the second and third game. Due to the previous results, the fourth and final game decided their finishing position. Both teams played fantastic basketball, were very evenly matched and the game ended in a draw. This meant both teams finished on equal points. The team finished as runner’s up of the group and made it through to the super 10s.

West Leigh 2-6 Westborough

West Leigh 8-0 Bournes Green

West Leigh 6-2 Temple Sutton

West Leigh 1-1 Thorpedene

Once again the team had 4 games to play. In the first game, the team once again worked hard but unfortunately lost. The team remained positive and once again focused on the game ahead of them and managed to get a draw in the second game. In the third game, the team managed to find space on the court helping them to get the win. In the final game, the team worked incredibly hard managing to score early on but then Westborough equalised. The team then pushed on to get the lead once more but in the final few seconds Westborough managed to equalise and the game finished in a draw.

West Leigh 0-4 Chalkwell

West Leigh 2-2 Friars

West Leigh 4-0 Hamstel

The team did an incredible job throughout the tournament with every team member showing great improvement in their basketball skills as well as demonstrating superb sportsmanship and respect. The whole team were a credit to the school and should feel very proud of their performance.
