Year 5 Writing Workshop

On Tuesday, we welcomed sixth form students from Southend High School for Girls to work with some children from Year 5 as part of a writing project.

Having watched a short animation based on ‘The Piano,’ the children were then paired with a mentor from SHSG to help them generate their own ideas about writing projects they could work on together across three planned sessions in the next month. The ideas discussed were emotive, philosophical and destined for great outcomes.

We look forward to hosting our next session in a couple of weeks when we will get down to the ‘nitty gritty’ of writing stories, descriptions and whatever else the children think would be suitable. The West Leigh children were really excited at the prospect of deciding their own writing outcomes and relished the opportunity to work with older students as their ‘mini-teachers’.
