Basketball tournament

On Wednesday 10th January, Mrs Denison and Mr Nash travelled to Shoebury Leisure Centre with the school basketball team. The team made up of 4 girls and 6 boys. The team got off to a great start in the group stage, winning their first 2 games. In the third game they drew, bring it down to the last game to decide who would go through to the semi finals as the winners or runners up, the team kept calm to win the last game to go through as the winners of the group.

West Leigh 4-4 Westborough

West Leigh 6-0 Bournemouth Park

The team played Friars in the semi final, the children showed great defensive skill and pushed up the court, at the end of the first half the score was 0-0. The second half was very tense to watch with time up and the score at 4-4 extra time was needed, with 2 minutes to be played each way, at the end of the first 2 minutes the score remained 4-4. The second half Friars managed to score bring the score to 4-6, West leigh remained confident with the rest of the team cheering them on they moved up the court but with only 5 seconds left on the clock were unable to score, with the game ending, West Leigh 4-6 Friars.

The team still had a chance of taking home a medal with the 3rd/4th playoff against Allen Court. The team remained positive and encouraged each other throughout the game, with the final score West Leigh 6-2 Allen Court.

The team put in an incredible performance throughout the tournament to finish 3rd and represented the school with superb sportsmanship, behaviour and really enjoyed the experience.
