Southend Music Festival
Young musicians from West Leigh Junior School performed at the Southend Music Festival yesterday. Children from Years 4, 5 and 6 performed a diverse collection of solos, duets and ensemble pieces. Some children were presenting individual entries for the first time so this was a particularly significant achievement. We were treated to a journey through musical history as the programme covered music by Bach and Purcell, themes from ‘Mary Poppins’ and ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ as well as contemporary music written this year. In addition to experiencing a professional performance platform, the children were given constructive feedback from a guest adjudicator. They received very positive comments, which was very pleasing, especially given the very high standard of musicianship shown by all the competitors. Congratulations to everyone involved, with extra praise to Bryony Gardner, Katie Ixer and Mia Mikhaiel who all won solo and duo prizes. Our main Recorder Group also won the Recorder Ensemble class and our Quartet (Bryony Gardner, Mia Mikhaiel, Louisa Gardner and Katie Ixer) won the Consort class. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came along to listen to our performances and who support our young musicians throughout the year.
