Tag Rugby Competition
On Wednesday 16th March, 12 year 4 children (8 boys and 4 girls) attended Southend Rugby club for the year 3/4 tag rugby competition.
In the morning our first game we played against Our Lady of Lourdes which was a very close game getting used to playing on the grass and on a huge pitch! We managed to win 4-3. We then played Chalkwell which we won 10-5.
We were then regrouped in the afternoon into the super 8’s. Our first game against Earls Hall was again a very close match with some excellent tagging and brilliant tries scored, unfortunately we lost by one try 7-6. Our next game we played Thorpe Hall which we managed to win 6-5. Our last game against Greenways we had to win to go through to the semifinals it was a very tense game, at half time we were losing 4-1 the children were very deflated however we came back to draw 5-5 which was an excellent recovery. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough for us to go through. The children’s skills improved during the day and all the children had scored tries and managed lots of successful tagging, a great team effort.
Our final placing was 5th out of 11 schools, well done to all the children involved.
After school our year 4 B team arrived to play in a B competition. Our first game against Richmond Park school we managed to win 8-1, our next game against Barons Court was a much closer affair with the score 4-4. We played both schools again allowing all the children to get to play lots of rugby. The children showed a vast improvement second time round with lots of great tagging and try scoring.
Congratulations to both teams for their team spirit and improved tag rugby skills.
