Children from Year 5 were honoured to take part in a special BBC Music online workshop this week. As part of the ‘BBC Ten Pieces: Connecting the Dots’ online outreach programme, West Leigh were selected for a Zoom meeting with a member of the prestigious choir, the BBC Singers. Led by our guest, Margaret (who also teaches at the world-famous Royal College of Music in London), the children were taught part of her warm-up routine and learnt some rhythm games. She told us that the BBC Singers often get given new music on a Monday and perform it in concert on a Friday! We were also treated to two solo performances which really showed us the power of her professionally trained alto voice. We had prepared a set of questions to ask Margaret about her musical background and she even gave us some advice to help us to become even better musicians. This was a fantastic opportunity for us and we hope to get the opportunity again in the future.
