Title: Running Wild

Author: Michael Morpurgo

The story, Running Wild written by Michael Morpurgo, is set in Asia. It is about a boy who gets swept up in a tsunami with only an elephant to help him survive. As he searches for help and other survivors, he meets a number of interesting characters along the way.

This story is beautifully written and you will feel that you really understand how the main character, Will, feels when he is stranded with Oona (the elephant). The language used to describe the tsunami and jungle is both creative and at times, scary. The part I least enjoyed was right at the beginning as I thought Will was going to die but the story takes a change in direction and I was relieved.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves animals and who has a good imagination that can visualise beautiful settings. Children from the age of eight would be able to read this, though it is a bit long. It would be perfect for children in Year 5.
