Football tournament

On Friday 4th December Mr Hatton and Mr Nash travelled to Belfairs Sports Ground to play Westborough Primary School with the boys’ football team to play their first league game of the season. After a strong performance in the recent tournament, they were confident of getting a good result. From the beginning of the game the team took control of the match and had lots of chances with the pressure creating lots of chances. West Leigh went ahead thanks to a great goal very early in the match. West Leigh continued to dominate possession and the chances but the first half finished at 1-0 thanks to some brilliant saves from the Westborough goalkeeper. The second half continued in the same way, with West Leigh creating all the chances and a few shots were cleared off the line. The score remained 1-0 until the last 10 minutes when Westborough made a chance count by equalising. West Leigh remained positive and tried to push for a winner. Towards the end of the half, all 7 boys were in Westborough’s half and playing some wonderful football. Unfortunately the goal never came and, despite their best efforts, the match ended 1-1. The performance was brilliant and, should they continue to play that way, the boys’ team will certainly win many games this year. They now need to prepare for the next league game, against Temple Sutton, in January.
