
Year 5/6 Aquathlon
11 children from West Leigh Junior School took part in an aquathlon at Garon Park. The children completed a 100m swim followed by a gruelling 1km run in the sun! All of the children performed brilliantly and cheered each other on until the end. We saw some incredible swimming and running from the children throughout the afternoon. After all of the races were finished, it was announced that our boys' team and girls' team had both won! This meant that West Leigh are the 2021-22

Fancy Dress Fun!
The new fancy dress clothing is going down an absolute storm on the playground! Children of all ages are getting involved and there is lots of role play and laughter filling the playground at West Leigh today. The clothes are a mixture of donations and some charity shop purchases, so thank you to all parents who donated whether it was with clothes or to the playground fundraiser.
Netball Competition
Eight Year 6 girls were at Alleyn Court to play in the netball competition which had been rescheduled from Garons.
In the first game we played Hamstel which we won 10-0, we then played Eastwood which we won 4-1 and our final game was against Bournemouth Park which we also won 8-0.
All the girls showed excellent team work and are very much looking forward to the finals which are on Thursday 28th April again at Alleyn Court.

Equality and Diversity Pupil Summit
Today five pupils from our 'Equality and Diversity' pupil group attended a summit in Southend, along with representatives from many other Southend schools. As always, they represented the school fantastically with their exemplary behaviour and respect for others. New Playground Games and Toys!
This week we have started to put out some of the new playground games and toys that have been donated and purchased through the children's fundraising efforts last year. We took suggestions from the school council about what they would like to see and we have done our best to meet all of these requests! Tag Rugby Competition
On Wednesday 16th March, 12 year 4 children (8 boys and 4 girls) attended Southend Rugby club for the year 3/4 tag rugby competition. In the morning our first game we played against Our Lady of Lourdes which was a very close game getting used to playing on the grass and on a huge pitch! We managed to win 4-3. Year 5 Boys' football
On Friday 4th March, the Year 5 Boys’ football team travelled to The Len Forge to play in the Participation Football Year 5 Boys. This was the first time the boys’ played as a team and were extremely excited, especially with ten games to play, each lasting ten minutes one way. Sitting Volleyball and Curling
Children from West Leigh represented the school in some new and exciting sports on Tuesday. Our sitting volleyball team participated in 14 matches against other schools and were involved in some excellent and exciting rallies! They did magnificently to finish in 6th position. Meanwhile, another four children represented the school in a curling competition. Year 4 Football
On Monday, the Year 4 football team played against Chalkwell Hall in a friendly football match. They showed great teamwork, enthusiasm and composure to win the match 4-1 with some incredible defending and attacking on display! Well done to all of the children involved.

Friendly Hockey Match
On Tuesday 1st March, 17 children from Year 6 and and 3 from Year 5 played a hockey friendly match at Southend Hockey club, Warners Bridge, against Alleyn Court. The children enjoyed the experience of playing on the astro turf and improved as the games went on. Well done to all of those involved.
