    SPSSA Girls’ Football Tournament

After the girls’ football teams’ success at the emerging football tournament, the team once again travelled to The Len Forge Centre to compete in the girls’ football tournament on Friday 15th October. The day started with the group stages, where the team played six matches lasting seven minutes one way. In the first match, the team worked tirelessly making superb passes and played great attacking football but were unable to get the ball past the defence and keeper, with the g

    Bowling

On Monday 18th October, four very lucky children represented West Leigh at a ten-pin bowling event at Hollywood Bowl in Basildon. All of the children achieved impressive individual scores which were then combined to make a team total. The children wore the West Leigh jerseys and their medals proudly on their return to the school in the afternoon. The day was full of excitement and celebrations!

On Friday 8th October, eight members of our girls’ football team played in the Southend Primary School Sports Association Emerging Girls Football Tournament at Len Forge. They played ten competitive matches across the day. The morning began with the group stage, five matches lasting eight minutes one way. The first match was a tough battel between both teams, with the teams getting used to the pitch surface and warming up into the game resulting in a draw. The team then went
    Playground Squad Training

    Playground Squad Training

This morning our new playground squad, made up of Year 5 pupils, carried out their training to ensure that they were ready to begin their new role on Monday. They started by considering how they could make sure that their practices were both safe and fair, and then spent playtime as 'play detectives', learning what makes playtime fun and how teachers deal with any issues on the playground. After break they shared their findings and Miss Ling taught them lots of new games that

    Reading Week

    Reading Week

Wow! What a whirlwind of a reading week we have had. Under the title, ‘Reading in the Community’, the children certainly have made the most of the opportunities around us this week. On Monday, the whole school was inspired and enthralled by the author, Gareth P Jones. From his musical interludes, engaging wit and invaluable advice to our upper school children when it came to writing their own mystery stories, Gareth showed just what an exciting and fulfilling life we can a

    Music Workshop with Together

Our Year 6 choir members enjoyed a creative music workshop, organised by Southend Choirs and composer Kerry Andrew. (One of Kerry’s previous compositions is one of the ‘BBC Ten Pieces’.) The children were invited to help create a new piece of music, which will be performed in Southend later this year. The aim was to develop short lyrical ideas, inspired by their ideas about lockdown isolation and being reunited once again. Our workshop leader, Ben, was really impressed with t

West Leigh Watch The Women's Cycling Tour!

This afternoon the children of West Leigh experienced an event that they will never forget! The whole school walked over to Eastwood Road to watch stage four of the Women's Cycling Tour. We had great fun cheering them along and it was absolutely wonderful seeing the whole school come together with the community to watch these talented cyclists from all over the world. The children had to wait a little longer than expected but this did not deter them at all - they displayed wo

All of the children ran brilliantly in every single race and supported each other throughout the day. The girls di
