Yr 5/6 Girls' football tournament

The Year 5 and 6 girls' football team competed in the Southend Primary School Sports Association Girls' Football Competition on Friday 18th October 2019. The day started off with the group stage where the girls got off to a great start by winning the first match. The team then faced two very tough matches managing to win their second match and followed that up with a draw in the last match of their group. West Leigh 2-0 Hamstel West Leigh 3-2 St Marys West Leigh 0-0 Temple Sutton They then went through to the super eights as winners of their group. SPSSA Cross Country Tournament

On Wednesday 2nd October, West Leigh took 46 children from across the school to take part in the Southend Primary School Sports Association Cross Country Tournament. The children were running in teams as well as individuals. Each year group had their own race split into a girls’ race and a boys’ race, with year 3 and 4 running 1km and year 5 and 6 running 1.5km. With 26 schools taking part and up to 156 children in each race, they were all highly competitive races. Yr 5/6 Tag Rugby Finals

Once again, West Leigh has excelled in the Southend Yr 5/6 Tag Rugby Finals continuing the school’s magnificent record! During the course the tournament, they played 10 games and impressively won all 10 ultimately being crowned champions. In the morning, they played four games in the group stage: West Leigh 8 - 0 Friars West Leigh 5 – 1 Darlinghurst West Leigh 6 - 0 Barons Court West Leigh 5 - 3 Bournes Green Following these great results, they joined the second stage playing in a group of 5 as part of the ‘Super 10s’. Harvest Festival

On Friday 11th October, the children donated a variety of tinned and packet foods to our harvest collection which was gratefully received by Southend Foodbank. After learning how foodbanks operate and how they support the local community, the children were keen to make a difference and gave generously and the representative from our local foodbank was overwhelmed by their generosity. Emerging Girls' Football Tournament

On Friday 11th October, eight of our girls from the school football team travelled to the Len Forge Centre to compete in the Southend Primary School Sports Association Emerging Girls Football Tournament. They had the opportunity to play eight competitive matches against seven other schools. For most of them, it was their first time playing a competitive match outside of school training sessions. With every match, all of the players showed great improvement and understanding of the game. Unfortunately, they did not quite manage to get a win in any of the games but did manage to secure a number of draws. Danbury

On Wednesday 25th September, 120 Year 5 children arrived at school with a mass of suitcases and were full of excitement ready for their 3 day residential at Danbury. The day started with a few fun activities in their classes before the coaches arrived and were loaded up ready for the short 30 minute journey up to Danbury. Once we arrived, the children were sorted into their tents and then gathered together for lunch before their first of two activities. Some children found their way around the caving simulator, some conquered the knee-wobbling heights of the aerial trekking and others learnt the art of bush craft ending with some tasty hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows.
