SPSFA Champions of Champions Finals

On Friday 17th May, the boys’ and girls’ football teams played their final game of the season at Roots Hall in the SPSFA Champion of Champions Finals. Both teams qualified for the final by winning their leagues. The girls’ match was first to kick off against Chalkwell Hall. The girls continued to show their strength and skill from the start with great pressure and attacking ability getting close to the goal on a number of occasions. They put Chalkwell’s defence and keeper to the test, both pulling out great blocks, takes and saves. KS 2 Southend and District Tennis Tournament

On Friday 10th May, eight pupils took part in the ‘Southend and District Tennis Tournament’ at Garon Park. In the morning session, a team of four children from years 3 and 4 were in action. The children played extremely well and showed great determination. The first match finished with a 3-1 win, the second a 1-3 loss and the final game was a 2-2 draw. On a count back of points, West Leigh finished one point behind the second position team and thus just missed a place in the semi-finals. In the afternoon, the year 5/6 team were in action. Maths Quiz

Maths can be challenging subject when the standard of the questions is pitched at al level aimed to push your thinking skills to the limit. Now imagine having the added pressure of a time limit - perhaps only 60 seconds to solve a complex problem. Add to that being watched by an audience - many who are not on your side. Well, that is exactly what eight brave Year 6 pupils did when they attended a Quiz Club maths competition recently. Prior to the event, they won their places on the team through a selection quiz within school and then gave up lots of their lunchtimes to prepare for the event. KS2 Boys' Cricket Competition

On Wednesday 1st May, 10 year 6 boys entered the KS2 Best of Cricket competition at Garons there were 15 schools in the competition. The first game in our group was against Fairways, with some excellent fielding we won this game by 32 runs. Our second game against Edwards Hall was very tense they had some excellent bowlers and unfortunately we lost by 13 runs. We went through to the quarter finals as best runners up where we played Greenways, again a very close game which we managed to win by 12 runs. KS2 Girls Cricket competition

On Tuesday 30th April, eight year 6 girls entered the KS2 Girls Cricket competition at Garons. We hadn’t had much practice playing on the grass so we were unsure of the different playing surface. Our first game against Fairways was a big learning curve for us and unfortunately we lost by 30 runs. Our second game against Thorpedene was better and we won by 27 runs. The final game in our group was against Earls Hall and by now we were getting the hang of the rules! We won this by 19 runs. We went into the semi-final against Bournes Green which we won by 16 runs.
