Year 3/4 Boys football tournament

On Friday 25th January, the year 3/4 boys’ football team travelled to the Len Forge Centre to compete in the year 3/4 football tournament. The day started with the group stages with 3 games to play. The boys got off to a good start getting an early lead. Thorpedean then managed to get an equalizer but the team pushed hard to get another goal. When the whistle blew, the game ended in a draw. The boys continued to show good form and went on to win their second game. The final game of the group stage would help decide which teams were going through to the super 10s. Quiz Club General Knowledge

Earlier this term West Leigh Juniors took two teams to take part in the first heat of the Quiz Club General Knowledge competition at Heycroft Primary School. As the reigning National Champions we felt a bit of pressure to perform well again! The competition from the 10 schools involved was very strong with the lead changing hands may times during the course of the quiz. In fact it came down to the final two questions to determine the winners. Luckily for us, one of the members of our Team 1 has incredible knowledge about space and planets and his answer to the penultimate question was the only correct one in the room which gave West leigh Team 1 the victory. Portico Dodgeball Festival

On Thursday 24th January, nine Year 6 children took part in the very first Portico Dodgeball Festival held at Friars Primary School. The festival brought together all four schools in the Portico academy: Hamstel Juniors, Friars, Porters Grange and West Leigh. Each school played 3 rounds against the opposition with individual rounds lasting two minutes. West Leigh’s first game was against Friars which they won 2-1 and their second game was against Porters which they lost 1-2. Their final game was against Hamstel where they drew round one and then lost the next two rounds. The result ended 1-3 to Hamstel. Year 6 basketball tournament

On Wednesday 9th January, West Leigh’s basketball team travelled to Thorpe Hall School for the basketball tournament. The team was made up of 6 boys and 4 girls and it started with the group stages with 4 games to play: each half being 3 minutes long. In the first game, the team worked hard to win the ball and move around the court but unfortunately lost the game. They put the result behind them and focused on the games ahead and went on to win both the second and third game.
