Boys' cricket competition

On Wednesday 13th June, 10 boys travelled to Garons to play in the boys’ cricket competition. In the morning the team had 3 games to play in the group stage, they played Darlinghurst, Westborough and Heycroft. The first match was very close with the boys just missing out on the win by 2 runs, with two games left the boys continued to improve their bowling and fielding as well as their batting skills, but were unable to get a win. In the afternoon the boys played two friendly matches against Westborough and Earls Hall. Quicksticks Hockey

On Wednesday 13th June, six year 6 children (4 boys and 2 girls) travelled to Chelmsford Hockey club to play in the county Quicksticks hockey finals. We played in extreme heat, five consecutive games against Perryfields 0-0 Elmwood 1-1 Mildmay won 3-1 Cathedral A won 2-0 Writtle A won 4-0 and Terling B 1–1 We were regrouped in the afternoon and because three schools had finished on 24 points it went down to goal difference which meant that we came 3rd in our pool. We then played Writtle B and after a very close game lost 3-2 and our final game was against St Michaels (Chelmsford) 1-1. It meant that we had played eight games and lost only once! Leigh Music Festival

On Friday, young musicians from Years 4, 5 and 6 represented West Leigh in the Instrumental Classes of the Leigh Music Festival. All the children played very well and received positive comments from the adjudicator. Congratulations to everyone who performed with a special mention for: Georgia Baker and Kathryn Hall who won their duet class; Alex Blackstone-Cobbe, Freddie Dawson and Sebastian Rapley Mende who won the Chamber Class and the Year 5 and 6 Recorder Group who narrowly beat our Year 4 Recorder Group in the Ensemble Class. Rounders competition

On Friday 8th June, 10 year 5s and 10 year 6s travelled to Thorpe Hall School to take part in the rounders competition. The year 5 team played in the morning session. Each school played 2 games in the group stage, West Leigh played against Fairways and Hamstel. The team lost the first game and won the second to put them through to the quarter finals as runners up. They then played Earls Hall who won the game. We then played a friendly with Blenheim. In the afternoon it was the turn of the year 6 team to play. KS2 Cricket competition

On Tuesday 12th June, nine Year 6 girls played at Garons in the KS2 cricket competition. There were 12 schools present. We lost to Earls Hall and Blenheim (by only 6 runs) and beat Temple Sutton by 17 runs. After lunch the competition had to be postponed due to the heavy rain! However the girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience and their batting and fielding skills improved as they went along. Quad kids

On Friday 25th May, 16 children competed in Quad Kids Athletics at Garons Park. They were split into two teams, year 3/4 and year 5/6, the teams were made up of 4 boys and 4 girls. Each athlete competed in 4 different events: Year 3/4 events: 50m sprint, 400m, standing long jump and howler. Year 5/6 events: 75m sprint, 600m, standing long jump and howler. This was a great experience for the children and a really enjoyable event.
