Netball competition

Tuesday 22nd May, 8 year 6 girls competed in the netball competition held at Garon Park. On a very hot day the girls played a total of 10 games. In the morning they were unbeaten against St. Michael's, Chalkwell, Earls Hall and Hamstel Juniors. We were re-grouped in the afternoon and beat Blenheim, Prince Avenue, Hamstel again and drew with Temple Sutton 1-1. In the semi-final we played Alleyn Court and lost 3-1. We then played Earls Hall again for the 3rd/4th play off, this was a very close game, 2-2 at the end. It went into extra time where unfortunately for us Earls Hall scored with seconds to go. The girls showed excellent team spirit and were very unlucky to not come away with a medal

Year 5 Natural History Museum

On 16th and 17th May, Year 5 travelled to London to visit the Earthquakes and Volcanoes exhibit at The Natural History Museum. The children were treated to an interactive show where they were able to create their own destructive earthquake and volcano and study the ‘behaviour’ of lava, before heading up to the gallery where they experienced being a part of the Japanese earthquake in the simulator. The children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to enrich their learning from last term, whilst also finding out lots more. #Wholeschool #Year5

After the girls’ success in their league, they qualified for the SPSFA Champions of Champions Final, made up of the winning teams from each league, played at Roots Hall on Friday 18th May. The girls kept calm and focused helping them maintain possession of the ball and keep the ball in the oppositions half. The girls managed to find a bit of space, getting the ball out onto the wing and push forward, followed by a fantastic shot, curling the ball past the keeper and into the bottom left corner, bring the score to 1-1 at half time. All the children demonstrated impressive dedication to race superbly in the extreme heat and represented the school impeccably. Well done to all.

Following a nail biting tie break match, West Leigh finished top of their group and went into the semi- final match. After a closely fought battle, the children narrowly missed out on a place in the final. The 3rd / 4th playoff was equally close, but this time our team were the winners and were absolutely delighted with their bronze medals. In the afternoon, the year 5/6 team were in action. They were fortunate enough to play on the outdoor courts and enjoy the mild summer sunshine. After a series of e

Quiz Club semi-finals

On May 3rd the West Leigh Quiz Club team travelled to Felsted Preparatory School to take part in the semi-final of the national general knowledge competition. There were 12 teams from all over the south east of England competing and it was an incredibly exciting event. For a long period of time from the start of the contest West Leigh were in the top three schools but there was one particular school leading consistently. However, as the competition entered the final round of more challenging questions, the West Leigh team took the lead and battled their way through the remaining questions to become the winners and qualify for the national final. It was an extremely impressive performance. Th
