Half term sports round up

This half term we took part in our first ever handball competition and our team played extremely well. They had a very exciting and enjoyable afternoon competing against other local schools and worked well supporting each other. Our girls’ netball team have been practising their skills with friendly matches against St Michael’s, winning all our games. In football news, our girls played a friendly against Temple Sutton. The girls played a good solid game from start to finish and fought until the end but sadly we lost the game 4-1. The boys had better success and played to a high standard in their league game. When Temple Sutton were awarded a penalty our goalie put in a great save. The final

Year 4 Southend on Sea field trip

Continuing with their ‘Wish You Were Here’ topic, our year four children were very excited to travel to Southend by train this half term to take part in the geography field study. After a lot of preparation in class, the children completed footfall surveys, building use surveys, questionnaires and also made field sketches of different scenes around Southend seafront. It was one of the windiest days of the year but the children marched on and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. They spent time on the High Street and along the seafront including the Kursaal, Adventure Island and Southend Pier. They conducted themselves extremely well as they stopped members of the public to ask them questions

Recorder masterclass

Yesterday the Year 3 and 4 children were very lucky to be given the opportunity to watch a recital from international recorder superstar Piers Adams. He had the children in the palm of his hand as he talked through his musical background and showed them a selection of his recorders, some which dated back many years. The children were amazed at Piers’ brilliant solo performance, which at one point included him playing three recorders at once. The West Leigh Junior recorder players from years 3 through to 6 were then invited, along with children from Bournes Green Junior School, King Edmund School, Westcliff High School for Girls and Southend High School for Boys, to take part in an interact
